Snow Machines At the Park

These guys had a great ride. They arrived on Thursday Feb 18 and plan on checking out tomorrow Sunday Feb 21. Did 165 miles on Friday not so many today returned while still light out for a great dinner at one of Tupper Lakes great restaurants.

Hanmer Guide Boat Races Return for a 46^th Edition

Saranac Lake (NY) - The 46^th Annual Willard Hanmer Guideboat Races will take place on Sunday July 6^th at Riverside Park in Saranac Lake. The races will start at 11 a.m. with registration starting at 10 a.m. Pre-registration packets are available at Guide Boat Realty, 191 River St., Saranac Lake, 518-891-1144 or at the Saranac Lake area Chamber of Commerce office, 518-891-1990.

Race categories include a one-person guideboat race that will involve about a ¼ mile carry; a two-person race which will involve a change of seats by the rower and paddler; a fledgling race for those under 16; women’s race; and a granddaddy race where the contestants combined ages must exceed 100 years.

This year’s event will also include a canoe race, a “rubba-dubb” race with four or more paddlers in a recreational canoe.

There will be prize money of $100 for first place, $75 for second place, $50 for third place and a bonus: $100 for the fastest traditional guideboat.

The race is sponsored by Guide Boat Realty, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, The Woodward Boatshop, The Doyle Boatshop and Bear Essentials.

The 46^th annual Hanmer Race is held in conjunction with the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s Great Adirondack Days.

Hiking Trail conditions

Picture above is of Cascade Falls taken 4-22-08. At that time the trail was very muddy with lots of fallen tree and branches but the crew was in there cutting them back. Also the beaver were active on the falls end of the lake so it will continue to be quite wet back there.
Had a great climb up Panther Mt. on 4-28-08. Encounter a little mud near summit. Otherwise the trail is great. Ice storm damage minimal compared to other trails I've been on this month. Unfortunately I did not bring my camera. You could tell how high the water is by the width of the Saranac river. I don't believe i had seen it so wide from that view before!

I recieved this E-mail today from a lovely couple who came to do some winter exploring.

Staying at the Park Place Motel was so peaceful and yet so exciting, I want to thank our hosts as they were so kind to let us borrow their snow shoes. What an experience! Having the ability to walk on top of the deepest of snow was so neat, and it was the first time for the both of us. I have stayed at the Park Place before and definitely will stay there again, they are the best! Thank you Maggie and the Mr.(sorry I didn't catch his name), we both really had fun.

We did not get a female flower in the pumpkin patch till mid August. I hope we can have a long enough season to see them ripen. The largest is approximately 8 inches tall with a 15 inch circumference.

Biker Bliss

We've had a great time this season hosting lots of Bikers from all over, Kentucky,Colorado,Alberta,Toronto,Ohio,Florida,Wyoming,I've lost count. And everyone

a pleasure to have as our guests. Last week we had a young girl who quite her job to spend the summer seeing the USA on her cycle. They all have wonderful stories about their trips and the friends they meet along the way.

Our Grand children slowed down toward the top but picked up speed when they spotted the tower. After saying they could not take another step they ran up the tower stairs with energy to spare.

Winter Climb

The photos below and those on snapfish (password clover555) were taken Jan 22,2007. Myself and our wonderful Dog Snowshoed up Mt Arab . We had a glorious day and recommend A winter hike to all.The trail head is about 8 mi from the motel. It is well marked. A little steep in parts but a short climb for the view.

Hi Maggie,
Just wanted to send a message along to let you know how much I enjoyed my stay at your motel.
Nothing fancy, just a clean, comfortable room with very friendly and helpfull owners.
For the fisherman, canoeist, kayaker, etc.,if location is important, than this is a great place to stay. Everything is nearby.
I will return to your motel on my next trip to the Adirondacks.

Fall trail walking

We had a wonderful week ..climbed Ampersand MT on sunday.Monday we spent the day at the Wild Center.Tuesday we took maggies advise and packed a lunch to go exporing the trails along the Grasse river the highlight of our week was seeing the water falls.Wedesday
we got up late and had Brunch at the Lumberjack that browsed through the shops in town.
An early diner at the Park Smokehouse. Thursday morning we rode the gondola up white face and spent the remainder of the day in Lake Placid. Friday we had to head home Next year we will sett aside more time. Can't wait to return. John and Carrey

Water water everywhere

What a great trip. Our cabin was clean and cosy.The paddle trip was Awesome . Everyday we spotted wildlife I'd never seen in the wild before. Bald eagle,blue Heron ,Otter and the fishing was great.We came back to your place and cooked the days catch. Who could ask for more. Thanks for keeping the town so friendly.
